Shared Areas on the Clay Farm Allotment Site

The original plans for the site included a large area near the gate with raised beds and gravel paths. This was modified to create the current layout. You can see the original plan for the raised beds here. These beds became unsafe and most of them were removed. It is now an interesting challenge to develop and manage the area to be useful and attractive.

Following discussions with interested plotholders, the committee has created a first draft layout which is now taking shape. The details will depend on suggestions from plotholders and the work of interested volunteers.

At present, the overall aim is to create an easily maintained area which is attractive, safe and hospitable to plotholders and their visitors, as well as providing habitats and food for pollinators, and to contribute to the biodiversity of the neighbourhood.
A survey is being sent to members of the Allotment Society, to collect their views on these draft plans. The committee also welcomes contributions from their partners and regular visitors, especially if you are able to help to create and maintain S1 as it takes shape.

The committee member leading on the orchard is Claudio and the social and biodiversity features are particularly Philippa’s responsibility.
